review 1: I was excited to be reading a historical romance not set in Europe, but this was kind of disappointing. The pace was weird, very fast, then very slow, then everything seems to wrap up very quickly. The solution being that the leader of the gang is just lonely and wants Li Tao and his baby to be his heirs? Kind of cheesey. I also really wished that Suyin had more agency. She was so passive, and also somehow a virgin? Why did she need to be a virgin? Their first romantic encounter was soooo awkward!
review 2: So much about this book took me by surprised. I hated Li Tao in Butterfly Swords and really wanted to see him skewered and dead, but this book completely turned that around for me. I was also looking forward to finally reading a book where the heroine wasn't
... more a virgin, but darn if Lin didn't rip that rug out from under me (though the twist made perfect sense and I rather enjoyed that I didn't see it coming.) Now I can't wait for her next book to come out. less
