review 1: Set in the era of the Tang Dynasty 759 A.D, The Lady's Scandalous Night is a treat for those looking for a historical a little less conventional. The heroine, Yao Ru Jiang, aka River, finally meets the man her brother’s best friend, Wei Chen. However, instead of them meeting and falling in love as River has always dreamed, Wei Chen arrives with the devastating news that he has been sent to kill her brother.Ru Shan has rebelled against Governor Li Tao, the warlord that both he and Wei Chen serve. Wei Chen has been sent to kill Ru Shan and River decides that the only way to protect her brother is to seduce Wei Chen in the dead of night.Jeannie Lin has created two strong and courageous characters in River and Wei Chen. Their love is born out of the tales told to each of the... morem by Ru Shan, and their love began to grow before they even met. River is a fantastic heroine, ready to sacrifice all for her family, and she’s a character you can easily root for.Be warned: River and Wei Chen only managed to reach their HEA by events that happened totally outside the details that were shared in the book, making it feel a little unrealistic and choppy. Had I not loved the rest of the story so much, I think it would have brought my rating down even more.
review 2: Once again, Jeannie Lin draws us into the world of Tang Dynasty China with a tale of love that is both sexy and sweet.Yao Ru Jiang, called River, would do anything to save her rebel brother. Even seduce his executioner. Wei Chen wants nothing less than to hunt and kill his longtime friend for betraying their commander, but he is bound by honor to bring him to justice. When he is waylaid by River’s charms, will Chen lose the trail of the outlaw, or will he lose his heart? The Lady’s Scandalous Night is a hot little warm-up act to her next full-length release, The Dragon and the Pearl. Despite its short length, it is long on emotion. less
