review 1: I am a HUGE fan of Jeff Shaara, having read every book he has written from Gods and Generals through to a current reading of A Chain of Thunder. That being said, for me, this was the MOST DISAPPOINTING of all his books to date and far inferior to his usual page-turning novels of the past. It was EXTREMELY slow and spent far more time in fictional thoughts than in the historical reality MUCH more than his usual work. While I typically would rate his works at 5 stars, THIS book only rates 2 stars, at best.
review 2: I entered the give-away contest for this book more for my husband, an avid reader of all things civil war, than for me. However, when I won a copy, I decided to go ahead and read it. Although I did not finish the book (not quite my cup of tea), I di
... mored find it to be well-written. It was somewhat interesting to me because we had visited some of the area where the book was set, but I just could not get into the overall story. My husband is anxious to read it, though, and I am sure that he is very glad that I won it. less

Shaara's book gives new perspective to the Western Theater of the Civil War.
