review 1: Like all of Jeff Shaara's novel, I learned a great deal of history; in this case, about the aftermath of Chickamauga and the subsequent battle of Chattanooga.As an Illinoisan and a Civil War wonk, I'm ashamed to admit of my sketchy knowledge of this battle. After all, many Illinois boys were involved, including the regiment to which my great-great-great grandfather belonged. This novel will definitely springboard me into further research, just as The Killer Angels did for me many years ago.
