review 1: "Textbook" is really just a 45-page ebook tease for Deaver's 2013 full-length Lincoln Rhyme novel "The Kill Room", the now expected first chapter of which is included after the short tale. When a woman is murdered in a parking garage, too much forensic evidence makes the usual crew of regulars at Rhyme's townhouse suspect much was probably just planted, which soon leads them toward the perpetrator. There's little more worth saying - we object to these promotional pieces being offered for sale; but if you're dying to read this story, it's also included in the recent (2014) Deaver collection "Trouble in Mind."
review 2: Mr. Deaver seriously disappoints with this short story. Honestly, don't he and his publishers have enough gold lining their pockets? Do they need
... more to fleece the devoted fan for another $1.99, all to hype a forthcoming book? I gave this short story two stars because it starts out well, in typical fashion for a Lincoln Rhyme forensic mystery. But one minute the reader is engrossed in the story and the next minute it is rather abruptly solved, almost "off camera" if you will. I had to reread those two pages 3 and 4 times because it felt like my copy might be missing pages. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Well, fool me once, shame on you. I will never fall for this type of hype again. And Mr. Deaver, if your publisher proposes it to you again, please decline. It's left a bad taste in my mouth. less

A three-star story elevated to four stars just because Jeffery Deaver is a fine writer.
Sameer
A classic Deaver tale with all the forensics and twists at the end
