review 1: When is a twist not a twist? If you see it coming, certainly. Or if there are so dang many of them that the exercise segues into the realm of absurdity. That is exactly what happens in this stalker tale, in my opinion.Although I find the study of body language to be fascinating, there is no need to have the word "kinesics" thrown at me with the frequency the author used it in this book. Most of us do not need to be hit in the head with a hammer to "get it". I completely understand that Kathryn Dance's forte is kinesics, and do not need to have even my aged memory refreshed of this fact every few pages. Give the reader at least a little credit here. It was irritating and distracting. On the upside, there was a brief appearance by Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sac... morehs.
review 2: Ok.... So I have read quite a few Deaver's after a friend introduced me to him a couple of years ago.I am not going to call myself a Deaver die hard fan, no pun intended, but having read about 10 of his books, I think it gives me a fair bit of knowledge of his writing.This one starts off well with Dance being on a vacation and trying to extend her collection of folk songs when she gets dragged into a small town country murder.All good till this point and then it gets all messed up.There is Jon who Dance thinks is going leave her.. Michael who loves her and suddenly she loves him back and then there is Rhyme who 'wheels' in!!!!!!!This was a star cast of literary fiction with the plot getting drowned in celebrtiy status.Anyways there is a bad guy in all this mess,who is one of the most brilliant bad guys ever but we never know how he gets to know the things he does and escapes getting caught.Anyways, in the end he does get caught.The writing is pretty solid and I dont have no complaints on that front but I hope Mr Deaver remains true to his roots of writing mystery novels and leaves the song writing to other professionals.Understand it was his passion many years back, but now the world knows he is a great author and hope he remains an author. less
