review 1: Another wonderful book by Jeffrey Zaslow that explores the bonds between mothers (and fathers) and their daughters. Told against the backdrop of Becker's Bridal shop in Fowler Michigan, Zaslow mingles the history of the family bridal business with the story of the brides who shop there. Filled with joy, sadness and the hope that we all have as we move toward marriage, the stories of the brides and their families will bring you to tears. Excellent!
review 2: I am saddened that the author passed away! Although the stories about the brides weren't "unique" or "astounding" in any particular way, I enjoyed this book for its statistics and facts. I liked the different stories of each of the girls, and I could see them each categorized as a genre of women in our d... moreay. I enjoyed the hard work ethic of the owner and that she managed the shop from several generations ahead of her own family. This brought back memories of when I worked at my own parents' restaurant, which I have loathed and loved. I am hopeful that her own daughter will run it for herself one day. I also love the title of the book and found that the book was written to portray such feelings and support the title. I would want my own daughter and young women I love, to read this book one day and have a discussion about it. Weddings are so full of hope but are just a short time in life. Marriage is reality and enduring, and I think I appreciated this the most; that the threads on marriage went beyond the wedding. less
