review 1: I listened to the audiobook, which actually may have contributed to my dislike of the book. Let me start by saying, I've enjoyed many of Jen's non-fiction books in the past. I like her style, even if the stories make me squirm sometimes. However, this effort was not my favorite by far. From the first twenty pages of so, I had to fight the urge to put the book down. I'd make it a few more chapters, then feel the urge to quit - I never give up on books. The book borrows HEAVILY from Mean Girls, 13 Going on 30 and similar stories. The dialogue is, at times, painful. The inner monologue of the main character was so annoying. The way Jen voiced the characters made matters worse. The book was stuffed with irritating, over-the-top stereotypes and characters. I especially disliked... more her portrayal of Virginia, a southern woman who used outdated and unbelievable verbiage. Being from the south, I had a hard time relating to or even enjoying reading any interchange that involved Lissy's mother. It was grating. Without giving anything away, the story goes way too far down the rabbit hole before attempting (unsuccessfully) to rescue itself. I'll definitely give other Jen Lancaster books a try, but hope to forget that I ever wasted time on this one.
review 2: I listened to this as an audiobook and really enjoyed it-Jen Lancaster has a great speaking voice and I doubt I would have liked it as much had I read it as an actual book or had someone else narrated. The story revolves around Lissy, an obnoxious "mean girl" who is given the opportunity to travel back in time to fix mistakes she made in high school. Light escapist fare that's a fun diversion while stuck in traffic. I have a few, minor issues with a couple of things (one example-I really doubt that a popular teenaged girl in 1991 would have a poster of David Coverdale from Whitesnake on her wall-if it were supposed to be 1984 or 1985 that would fit but not 1991) but nothing major. less

I loved the humor and writing style in this novel, but the story was a little hokey for me.

I enjoy her memoirs much more than her fiction...but this was a nice light summer read
