review 1: This was a pretty lame story. It came recommended to me as a really funny story but the only thing I found was cringe worthy moments and eye rolling. The writing left much to be desired and though I was able to finish it, and I've read some terrible books, this one made me regret the waste of time I spent finishing it. I didn't even find Eliza and Hamilton all that likeable and could form no attachment to them. They felt so flat to me. Glad to get one more book on my list towards my goal but I won't be passing this one on.
review 2: A Change of Fortune by Jen Turano is an excellent book that captivates readers by depicting Eliza’s journey to recover her stolen fortune. Along the way Eliza stumbles upon a man she falls in love with. The book shows themes of fr
... moreiendship, trust, and true love. This is an absolute must read for anyone who enjoys love stories with a little bit of adventure. Eliza is a young woman who has lost her fortune after her dad passed away. One of his trusted employees took all the money away from her and ran away to New York City. Eliza takes a job as a governess and tries to hide that fact that she is actually Lady Eliza Sumner. She soon stumbles into Mr. Hamilton Beckett, who invites Eliza to live with him after she looses her job. Mr. Beckett has two young children and recently lost his wife. Eliza soon falls in love with not only Hamilton’s children, but also him. “I thought, given the fact that you get along so well with my children, you might consider the idea of becoming a mother to them,”(190). Eliza is angered and turned away by the fact that he only wants her as a mother to his children. Both of them soon realize that they really do love each other. The Beckett family helps Eliza recover her fortune, but along the way Eliza realizes there is much more to life then money. It is a rare occurrence that you can find a book as good as A Change of Fortune. Considering that this is the author’s first book, this is remarkably well done. This is the first book in a series called “Ladies of Distinction”. I really want to read the other books, because they should be similar to this one. Overall, I would give this book five stars for the captivating plot and expressive dialogue. This a moderate read, but not easy enough that it begins to bore you. less
