review 1: I loved this book. Not everything will be new but she pulls no punches in describing the plague of what some consider women's bible study. She speaks truth, directly, practically and gently all at the same time. It is short and sweet and it will have you rethinking how you approach scripture. The Bible isn't meant to be easy or feel good. It doesn't support your agenda and it isn't a salad bar that you pick and choose from. Wilkin gives a process but you don't feel like you've been fed a formula. This book empowers women to read the bible in a way that they may not have been encouraged to do so before. As someone passionate about women's ministry we need to train women warriors and lead them to the source, not placate to traditional gender roles with baking exchanges, play... moregroups, and craft nights. Those things are fine, but without a message like this taking precedence, the church is being negligent with its women. I will recommend this book to every Christian woman I know.
review 2: I love how this book gives a different way to study the Bible. I can't wait to try the idea of printing out whatever book/chapters I'm studying, and write all over it. However, I absolutely did NOT like that she basically said that any other way of studying, is wrong or is not as good as the one she is suggesting. You have to read the ENTIRE book to get how to actually apply what she is saying. I almost gave up but kept going (which I was thankful for). I was emotionally torn throughout the whole book. I still consider it a must read, just read it with a mind that it's still her opinion and she's providing another option, not a replacement of what or how you are studying. less
