review 1: The plot had the potential to be really, really good. And overall, it was, except that I expected more. The alternating POVs between Allie and Adam should have made it more intriguing and with the few little clues in the beginning, it quickly became apparent to me what the tragic event was that affected Allie and what Adam was resentful about. However, I thought there would be more obvious chemistry between Adam and Allie beyond basic physical attraction and some general magnetism in each other's presence. I thought that being in Adam's POV, there would be a much stronger internal conflict than what was actually shown. Allie was represented well, all of her emotions and insecurities and she was definitely a likeable person. I liked Adam, too, but I wasn't convinced about h... moreis motives, whether they were intentionally meant to be thoughtful or to deceive. Most of the time, I was assuming that he was out to destory Allie and any sweet gesture was a part of that master plan. To say that Adam was confusing to me is an understatement because usually I have a tendency to like the male character as much or more than the female character and this wasn't the case, and I understand the characters pretty well and always give them a wide berth to avoid unnecessary judgment. Adam's emotions were very vague and although he was prone to jealousy, it wasn't until much later in the book that his emotions actually demonstrated a definite shift, but by that time, it didn't feel like a natural, believable progression to me. Also, other characters in the book were convincing the reader that Adam was a real sweetheart of a boyfriend and again, I'm not sure I saw that yet, and Allie definitely didn't, until the very end. Otherwise, the rest of the story was good so I'm hoping to see a stronger bond between them in the next book.
review 2: *ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review* Remembering Joy by Jenni Moen4 StarsReviewed by Adrean Remembering Joy is a story about two broken people. One is out for revenge while the other has a haunting past. I really enjoyed the storyline, it's not your typical love story. I loved that is wasn't predictable and not your normal HEA. At first I wasn't too crazy about Adam, he seemed like a total asshole but as you read on you find out more. You do get to get in his head because there is alternating POV. I loved Allie from the beginning, she is a workaholic, a strong female lead, but I did feel bad for her at times. Although I enjoyed this book I did feel at times it was dragged out too much. From the beginning you have this big question of WHY? And I did feel like it was dragged on to get to that point of why? This book had a bit of everything, heartbreak, lies, revenge, emotional, love, loss, forgiveness.I would of loved it if the love scenes went into more detail. In this book I felt it was needed because of the main two characters and all they have gone through. There is no cliffhanger but I would say it ends with unanswered questions. Good news is Finding Joy(#2) is out and you can read it now! less
