Elemental Assassin
review 1: Gin Blanco returns in book eight of the Elemental Assassin series, Deadly Sting. The book starts off with Finn, Gin's foster brother taking her shopping for a fancy dress. He's asked her to go to a gala with him that is showing Mab Monroe's possessions. Everyone that is anyone will be there, and Finn can't resist rubbing elbows with the rich. Things quickly escalate when someone attempts to assassinate Gin, and hold everyone at the gala hostage. With each second passing by, Gin has to figure out how to save her friends and all the other innocent people, and still manage to take down the bad guys. I enjoyed seeing Gin puzzling out everything on her own, since her friends were in the crowd being held hostage. It tossed a bit of difference from the other books in the series, s... moreince she generally figures everything out with her friend's aid. The villain in Deadly Sting didn't really impress me, and I'll be honest, this wasn't my favorite book in the series. But it wasn't a disappointment, it added a bit more to the overall series plot. The book leaves a big question in the air that I cannot wait to see what happens next. It's not really a cliffhanger, but it definitely left me intrigued and making grabby hands for the next book. I recommend this series if you're a fan of Urban Fantasy with a female lead that isn't afraid to get her hands dirty.
review 2: Intriguing storyline about Gin attending a fabulous showing of Mab’s treasures at a local museum society party during which a gang of giants break in to steal it all. I love island that the museum sits on. It sounds like it could be a fortress. What with the briars and rickety bridge. You know, so far we’ve seen Gin fighting an air elemental, two fire elementals: one weak and one strong, a water elemental, an electricity elemental, a couple of humans, a stone dwarf and a vampire, plus numerous minor opponents, so it was time for giants. I’ve said several times, that with the amount of giants that Gin keeps killing, they shouldn’t be any left, so now the giants have finally wised up and started taking care of themselves. So what kind of being is left to be next? Owen is a hypocrite. He’s doing exactly what he accused Donovan of doing. Only he’s worse. Donovan never claimed to be comfortable with Gin’s lifestyle or to be really in love with her. Owen did. He even said they came from similar backgrounds and was upset by how Donavan turned his back on her. Would he have preferred Salina to kill Gin, Eva, plus everybody else? He knew what Salina was and was doing and that she wouldn’t stop. He said it was over and he claimed that he wanted Gin, but when the chips are down he leaves her. I used to like Owen, but unless he straightens up soon, he’s off my list. If Bria can do it, he certainly can. Enough of a tirade, on to the story. The antagonists in this are interesting, though Clementine and her bunch are a bit cliché. They’re like Ma Barker and her gang. On the surface, she seems to have a good plan, but it’s almost obvious that she’s not smart enough to have come up with it on her own. And her family? Dixon is a moron and Opal is a spoiled brat. It’s surprising that got so far in this world. Jonah. He’s just a weasel. Gin finally gives him exactly what he deserves. It’s going to be interesting to see how that pans out. Mab just won’t go away. Though it’s not surprising due to how long she’d had Ashland wrapped up in her deadly fist. Bits and pieces of her life and power will probably keep popping up for a long time. Especially until and when we find out who M. M. Monroe is. Finn scares me with his crazy love for fashion and his constant flirting. I like him, but if I was Bria, I’d have a little talk with him. Make sure he’s okay. It’s a good thing she’s a confident woman, who can stand up to her potential rival’s He’d better watch himself. I feel bad for Jillian. Even though she was a rival, she was nice and didn’t deserve what happened to her. She just kind of got relegated to the shadows and almost forgotten. Anyone else think it odd, that on the way to meet Clementine, Gin has a continued flash back to a previous mission? It’s like Ms. Estep is just trying to add to, slow down, whatever, the anticipation of the upcoming confrontation. But, so far her flashback have given her, and us, some good advice. As if Fletcher was still mentoring her form the grave. I love the little story, and the dog. In spite of the serious damage to herself, Gin always manages to save her friends, kill the bad guy(s) and the save the day. And all she asks for it is loyal friends and the arms of a good man. Well, she gets the friendship, hope and a special personal gift. And Owen does gain a few points with me. There’s one unanswered detail. When Gin was in the vault to pocketed a diamond necklace, but we never see what happened to it at the end. Did she give it back? Fave scenes: Gin and Jillian in the bathroom, Gin and Owen in the briar patch and the fisherman’s spear less
