Sarah Woods Mystery Series
review 1: An Act of Deceit:Sarah Woods was just a massage therapist, but her pursuit of the truth in the death of her receptionist brought her to the attention of a private investigator named Carter who has now recruited Sarah to assist him in his investigations. A simple job proving a woman’s husband is a cheater turns dangerous when the man ends up dead. Sarah goes undercover to a strip club to try to find the out if the man’s death was truly an accident or murder. Meanwhile Max, the sexy younger man that is never far from Sarah’s mind has made it clear that he is interested in Sarah, in spite of her being unhappily married. Just like the first book, this one was impossible to put down until I finally found out whodunit. Even once I knew I almost couldn't believe... more it.
review 2: This is a well-written, fast-paced murder mystery about an apprentice detective helping solve a murder mystery despite an unsettled personal life. The protagonist is Sarah Woods, a 42 year old wife with a teenage son and a successful career. Her marriage is strained and she is attracted to another man, bored with work, and her son is growing up. Something drives Sarah to seek excitement--personal awakening, midlife crisis, maturity, a simple desire for change, whatever. Thus, she helps a professional private investigator named Carter with various small jobs that lead up to solving the murder in this book.A philandering husband named Marty dies when hit by a truck in a crosswalk and police write off the incident as an accident. Despite the victim's errant ways, his widow suspects foul play and hires Carter to investigate. Carter enlists Sarah to help, instructing her in the detection business along the way. Sarah interviews friends and possible murder suspects, sometimes posing as a journalist. The list includes the accident driver, a restaurant manager, an old friend, an attorney, one of the victim's former lovers, her father, and his close friend. In the course of the investigation, she is exiled from a bar, her car is stolen, and an attempt is made on her life. I could go on, but, the point is, she takes an interesting walk on the wild side (without informing husband or son what she is up to).Though inexperienced, Sarah is smart, courageous, cunning, and proves quite capable as a fledgling detective. As this book ends, her alienated husband has arranged a vacation trip for them together to Hawaii. less
