review 1: If you've ever seen a movie on Lifetime TV, or even a preview for a movie on Lifetime TV, you can predict every plot element in "Georgia's Kitchen". Worse yet, I found many of the characters unlikable or otherwise snobby. There were likable moments- the descriptions of the two beautiful settings (kitchens in Manhattan and the Tuscan countryside) were enjoyable. But otherwise a missable read. I first started reading it last September and gave up after a few pages. But I can't stand to just ditch a text entirely so I picked it up again this week. Was not necessary.
review 2: Nice, I enjoyed it and would rate it 3.5 stars, but it took me a while to read it because it just didn't capture my imagination and interest as much as I thought it would. Georgia, who is a
... morecreative and talented chef in NYC faces a couple of bad situations and decides to travel to Tuscany to work in a restaurant for a friend of hers. After a summer in Italy, she comes back to NY to decide what to do about her dreams of owning her own restaurant. Reminds me greatly of the movie Under the Tuscan Sun, not so much in the story as in the feeling of hopelessness that convinces the heroine to try something new and exciting, and her discovering that she had everything she wanted already. It was actually quite annoying to read about Georgia's dislike of her parents, specifically her mother, who seemed like a perfectly nice person that Georgia was always distrusting and disliking before Dorothy would even say anything. There apparently wasn't enough character development to really give us a clue why Georgia was always so irritated with her 'rents. Now that I think about it, I guess I missed some character development in other secondary characters, and maybe that's why I couldn't get as involved in the story as I expected. I loved Bernard, but we don't really know anything about him. And friends Clem and Lo were also pretty sketchy. As always, though, I liked reading about a restaurant kitchen and the craziness there as well as hearing about food, friendships, with a little humor thrown in. All in all, a nice book. Nice quote about a positive outlook, "What Georgia understood was that even people who looked as if they had it all had issues of their own. Relationships, children, work--Claudia grappled with the same problems Georgia did. But instead of focusing on what she didn't have, she focused on what she did."Another nice quote about life: "A chef's mise--all the herbs, oils, fine dices, towels, and anything else she might need to cook her way through a shift in a professional kitchen--was at her fingertips, shift after shift, night after night. It was reliable, steadfast. Life, as Claudia said, was not. Just when you thought you had everything figured out, just when everything seemed to be in its place, something came along and turned it upside down and you had to start all over again. Sometimes it was unpleasant. And sometimes it was wonderful." less

Vriendelijk en ontspannend vakantieboek. Maar ook niet meer dan dat. Type 'Julie and Julia',

Very good book, you end up rooting for the main character to succeed. Great chick lit.
