review 1: Picked up this one randomly at the library and glad I did. It's a wonderfully written murder mystery. There's a bit of romance, a lot of who-done-it, and a fair amount of religious history thrown in. What would you do with a shroud emblazoned with the image of Jesus Christ that had the power to make those in its presence tell the truth? Would you be able to avoid using it for your own gain? These are the basic questions driving the story as one ex-knight tries to unravel the plot behind the murder of a local merchant. Highly recommended.
review 2: This was a nice first in a series. I felt the writing was very smoothly done, as were the chapter lengths and breaks in the action. The people were very likeable, with a few exceptions. I was impressed with the twi
... morests involved and the time period is interesting. There were some words I was not familiar with, several of which were explained in the glossery at the end. (I prefer glossaries at the beginning, so I know that they are there!!!) I felt it was safe to pass on to my mother to read. Some violence and the sex was between the lines. less

An enjoyable yarn. Makes me think of a Mickey Spillane novel. Mike Hammer in the 14th century.

When one's longest friend suggests a book series, of course it's going to be great. Loved it.
