review 1: Up until a few months ago (maybe 2 or 3 months), I had no idea this existed. But I'm glad that I finally discovered this because it made me appreciate Flat-Out Love even more. I felt so sad for their whole family even back in Flat-Out Love because I don't want to imagine that kind of thing ever happening to me. And in this book, it made me even so much sadder for Matty because wow, the things he had to go through just so he could be there for his whole family.I'm glad he found Julie. He needed someone like Julie. And Julie needed someone like Matt. When I first read Flat-Out Love I was still weirded out by so many things but when I took the time to scan through the book again, I realized I really liked it. And it was actually very good. I just needed more Julie and Matt, a... morend this book gave me that!I still want more, but I'm really glad for this one!
review 2: After enjoying ‘Flat Out Love’ so much, I went into this with high expectations, only to find it is more of a companion/outtake/behind the scenes type of publication. It still had that quick wit and invoked the passion felt in its predecessor, but lacked the continuity of a story, jumping forward in chunks of time. There was also too much repetition. Experiencing events through Matt’s eyes did not uncover anything drastically new, or put an interesting spin on events.Jessica Parks writing is flawless and I completely love her style, I just didn't get into this so much. There is more adult content in this edition (unlike ‘Flat Out Love’) which does not detract from the story - in my opinion, it reflects Matt’s maturity and redeemed the book.Although highly predictable I wish it could have explored more of the family’s issues and/or history and reveal more about their lives. Or even a new character introduced into the mix that Julie never got to meet. I was left feeling a little unfulfilled at the end of the story, but got a warm hug in re-connecting with one of my favourite literary couples.I’d only recommend this to hard core fans of the first book in the series – it’s definitely not a stand alone. less

Great complimentary short story for Flat-Out-Love. Don't read this before FOL, you won't understand or appreciate it. Not a complete re-telling of the events in FLO, but has complimentary scenes from Matt's point of view from critical moments in the story. Gives the reader good insight into why he did what he did and the pressures/expectations that were put on him. This author never seems to disappoint me. Can't wait to read Flat Out Celeste now :)

I loved, loved the original: Flat Out Love. So I got this little novella, intruiged to read Matt's side of the story. It was relatively good, nothing amazing but not poorly written...except for the last useless chapter. Even though I liked the previous chapters, I'm giving it a three because *SPOILER ALERT* the last was just a gratuitous sex scene that I didn't even finish because it felt gratuitous and not really that important to the plot.
