review 1: I love Jhumpa Lahiri's writing, I love her depictions of India. I didn't, however, love this narrative. It was interesting but so melancholy. While plotlines were resolved nicely, I felt more compelled to finish because I enjoyed the storytelling, rather than the story itself. Make any sense? A worth while read, but not my favorite of Lahiri's work. Probably a 3.5 star novel if such things were allowed. review 2: The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is unlike her other books it took me awhile to get into it. Once I did however, I couldn't put it down. I love Jhumpa Lahiri's books. Beautifully written and fascinating stories about people and a culture so different than my own. I hope we won't have to wait so long for another novel. If so, I am sure it will be ... morewell worth the wait as was the case with "The Lowlands" less
