The Wives Of King David
review 1: You know, there aren't a whole lot of female Bible heroes out there. If you wanted to name your kids Biblical names, you'd be fine on boys, but the girls start becoming scarce real fast, unless you have a penchant for Jezebel or Dorcas. But Abigail is a hero I can cheer on. She's married to Nabal (whose name appropriately means "fool"), a guy who basically defines the term jerk. But she uses her wit and faith to work things out in the end.The book is well-written and makes you want to turn to the Bible for "the real story" - how can you beat that?
review 2: I honestly never thought about Abigail before and what her life was like either as the wife of Nabal or of David. I hadn't even realized there was a wife after Michel and before Bathsheba - just never though
... moret about it before. I really felt sorry for her - and thiink less of David and how he gave into his passions the way he did. She was just one in a string of wives he would lust after, woo, love and then cast off as the next one comes along. In this book David does care more for her than his other six wives, but I have to wonder how things go when Bathsheba comes into the story.....On to the next book.March 16 - I have revised my stars down one. See Bathsheba to see why. less
