review 1: There are four separate plot lines in this story. One of them is completely unnecessary & while it added "drama", it made no real sense & stuck out like a sore thumb from the rest of the book. I enjoyed the story of 12 year old Ivy the best. Her character was well developed and rang true. The book ends on a sudden note & the last chapter is the authors attempt to introduce us (very suddenly) to characters in book number 2 of the series, and I felt it diminished the book greatly.
review 2: If you want happily-ever-after, I am beginning to think you have to give up entirely on reality. No snow in Montana until after mid-October??? Yet, no drought to justify it. Cowboys at work in polo shirts??? Horses are just as much dirty work as cows! Is a little research too
... moremuch to ask??? The story was generally enjoyable, but the suspense element was not sustained or realistic. I will read the next one, as I enjoyed the characters. less
