review 1: Sky and River's story will stay with me long after Ive finished the book. It broke my heart and moved me to tears. It was a very powerful mixture of love, loss, and change. It was eye opening and insightful about the world we live in and the people we are around. Sky trys to learn the difference between good people and bad people and why terrible things happen in our world. In the paradise she lived in, it was her, River, and Island. Life was simple and good. Island is all Sky remembers and when shes separated from her Island and River, its heartbreaking watching her adjust to our cruel world. You can feel her desperation for River, who is not only her companion, (not sure if its a brother relationship or a lover or both), but her other half. In order to go on in ... morethis world, she will need to make it without River's help, and become less dependant on him.
review 2: This book is awesome, it mixes the modern world with well, the world on an island for 14 years. No one really, that I know, knows what it is like to live on an island for 14 years and only know your mom and your stepdad. The emotions experienced by both Sky and River are both something I guess would be normal for someone that went through the stuff they went through. At some points of the story it made you really mad when Sky would say that the cars are bushes and you would be like, this dumb, dumb girl, but it's just the fact that she doesn't know. The story is very detailful and also keeps us on the edge of our seats ( when we are reading and all of a sudden we have to stop). I think Jillian really knew what she wanted to say, and expressed it in rating really well. I really wish the story didn't end like it did because if the trajety didn't occur, there maybe could have been a second book. The book is also very emotional. Especially when the step siblings learn about their lives befor the island. I really would recommend everyone to read this book, I'm pretty sure you will love it as much as I do. less

This should have been better. The plot was interesting, but the execution didn't work for me.
