review 1: This book was amazing and I literally read it in one sitting. I wasn't sure what to make of it t first but s Jim Bernheimer began to build his world of the and show the behind the scenes when it comes to heroes and villains I was very pleased and couldn't put the book down. I should probably rate this book a little less as there are a few mistakes but he keeps it fast paced and lets everything roll into the next and to be honest I find I didn't really mind them. You should definitely read this book.
review 2: A refreshing take on the superhero story, told from the point of view of a for-profit villian. The world has succumbed to evil alien parasites that attach to humans and control their minds for their unknown purposes. But this is a world where superheroes, m
... moreagic and superpowers are real. One of the last uninfected people is Cal, who goes under the name "Mechani-Cal" because of the armor he built for himself and now permanently lives in as a way to avoid being taken by the aliens.Cal is determined to save the world (or at least not get infected) or die trying. He joins forces with Aphrodite, part of a befallen league of 12 superheroes (with real superpowers) called The Olympians hired to fight the forces of evil. When humans appear to be winning against aliens, Cal is asked to switch his line of business and join forces with The Olympians, which he agrees to on a purely pragmatic basis (fame and being regarded as a hero are unimportant to him). Crazy adventures ensue.I must say that the perspective of a villian like Cal, which is not inherently evil and has good reasons to act the way he does, along with the insight into his mind and personality are well done and more than entertaining. I am not really familiar with superhero tropes, so I cannot comment on those, but Cal here feels real and is a likeable character we do get to know. There is also a believable love story that fortunately is not the main focus of the novel. Some people don't like that the author does not describe anything. We do not even get to know the size or color of Cal's armor, for example, or his race. We do not get a picture of how the superheroes base or Cal's own secret lair look like. But I did not even notice. The story flows well and I enjoyed it. My only complaint is that the ending is not very original and introduces new rules a bit to late in order to explain important plot points. But the way the characters handle it feels right and that is more than I could expect. less

Fun loving light hearted read. A bit silly but sometimes that's what we need.
