review 1: I hadn't expected the early days of Calvin Stringel to be as entertaining as this book was. When you leave a person with no options either they fold or find a new path you hadn't anticipated and in this case the only that seemed open to Calvin was supervillan. However, as the reader is about to find out the supervillan world is no easier to navigate than that of the hero world. I enjoyed this novel. Its not padded out and tells the story it needs without wandering all over the countryside and gives you a laugh along the way. I'm now waiting for book 3 to be published later in the year.

... moreld is a large part of why I gave this 4 stars.Because the story here not overwhelming. It follows Cal from his being fired from Prometheus to the closet where Confessions starts, and much like Confessions there's no strong plot so much as small episodes in Cal's life. Since the main character starts out the first book as a D-Lister, it makes sense for Origins to have no epic or significant feel to it, but it also seems to lack a climax or feeling of real significance that a typical book. Naturally it feels more like backstory than a real Tale. There are little bits that would be foreshadowing for Confessions, but since this is a prequel it conjures a grin. If you want to find out how Cal got up to the D-List, if you want to hear his voice again, check this out. less
