review 1: As with other books by this author, there was something about this book that failed to keep me interested (hence my longer-than-usual reading time). There is definitely a discord between the girl power themes and the kind-of sexist theme of mentioning Snow's rack at least once a chapter. And not to mention the ridiculous cover art, which I assume the author has no say over. This is an entertaining book in the category of Rewritten Fairy Tales, that everyone's doing these days, and I wish I had liked it better. Probably won't check out the sequels unless they leap off a shelf at me.
review 2: While I actually read the second book--"The Mermaid's Madness"--before this one, TMM provided enough backstory detail to both orient readers who may have missed the fir
... morest book, and interest the reader in picking up said book. I'm glad I did. There are all sorts of re-tellings of various fairy tales. This one manages to be gritty, but with enough whimsy to provide a bit more than enough comic relief. I love the way Hines gives our main characters--Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty--character flaws, tragic back-story, and serious issues, all of which make things rather complicated for our heroines. In this story, I particularly liked his take on the Seven Dwarfs. less

Reads like a YA book, but with some adult themes. Definitely not Disney Princesses....

A fun book and quick read. Nothing too serious.
