review 1: In the third installment of the fairytale princesses saga, Talia--Sleeping Beauty--is whisked away to her desert homeland by Roudette, an assassin for hire who also goes by the Lady of the Red Hood. You can see where this is going: yes, Little Red Riding Hood is all grown up and out for revenge against the fairies, mostly, but she'll happily work for whoever will pay her fee. In this case, it's Queen Lakhim, the mother of the prince who woke Sleeping Beauty. She wants Talia dead for many reasons, but chief among them is that Talia killed her son.Snow and Danielle (Cinderella) get caught up in the magic used to pull Talia thousands of miles away and all three end up in the desert. They discover that the realm is under threat from the dark fairies, the deev, who are supposed... more to be guarded by the Kha'iida, nomadic tribes similar to the Bedouin. In order to find the Kha'iida and stop the Wild Hunt from destroying all in their path, the four women must work together... which isn't easy when Roudette has all the instincts of the wolf whose pelt she wears...I really enjoy these up-ended fairy tales. Forget those namby-pamby waiting-for-my-prince-to-come Disney-fied princesses; these ladies are seriously kick-ass. And I like nothing better than to read the adventures of kick-ass women.
review 2: Red Riding Hood, well... not like the much told fairy tale. Roudette is the hunter, an assassin known to the world as the Lady of the Red Hood. Lorindar is now the home of Danielle (Cinderella) she is the Princess of Lorindar, as well as Snow (Snow White) and Talia (Sleeping Beauty). They are actually Queen Beatrice's security team. When Roudette arrives because there is a contract out on Talia, things get very complicated, very fast. The four have to join forces and permanently dismantle the fairy magic that was responsible for the curse put on Talia. This series gives the reader a different, and darker, twist on the old fairy tales. While I loved the fairy tales as a child, as I grew older I thought there should be more to them. This series has provided that. less
