review 1: It might just be me, but it seems to be a growing cottage industry to rewrite the fairy tales of our youth recently. Of course it isn't like Disney hasn't been doing it for years so I don't really consider it a bad thing, just that the number of them recently does seem to be growing. This book happens to be in that genre, sub genre, niche market however you want to label the grouping. It is an interesting and amusing look at some alternate options for Fairy Tale Princesses. (It would be wild, but I don't think that Disney will be buying the rights anytime soon.) This installment (the first) includes three famous and popular Princess. Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. Their stories are a tad...okay quite a bit...off what I recall from growing up. Snow White, marri... moreed the Woodsman, Sleeping Beauty woke to find her family murdered and became an Assassin, or near enough for government work. Only Cinderella comes close to being the same. Close, but only sort of. This book is a must read for fans of Wicked and the like. It is a fun read for anyone else that likes their fairy tales.
review 2: Excellent! I'm a big fan of revamped fairytales and this series had exactly what I'd always thought fairytales were lacking - a strong female hero. Even better, it has oodles of them! This introduction to Hines' princess series is an excellent hook - it's fun, fast paced and well written with likeable characters. Only 4 stars because it's not my favorite of the princess series. Also, be aware, there's a lesbian princess - insert giddy whoop (done) or appalled gasp here. less
