review 1: First, Archaia is putting out some freaking gorgeous books. Five stars to whomever is running that outfit, even if the editorial department clearly values art over narrative.I thought this one might be an exception. I mean, Jim Henson. Show me someone in my age group who doesn't adore that man, and I will show you a human being without a soul. Tale of Sand is based on an unproduced screenplay from the early 60's, and... ok, it's not terrible, but it is very much meant as a showcase for the sort of cinematic experimentalism that was in style at the time. It might have made a good short, or an oddly avant garde episode of The Twilight Zone.If I was rating the art alone, five stars. Hell, five stars for the colors. GORGEOUS. It's a beautiful package, and an unexpected gi... moreft for Henson fans. But in the end it's a little bit of a disappointment.
review 2: Good luck following this one. It's basically a story about a man who is sent on a pointless journey with an unreliable map. On his way, he is relentlessly pursued by a man with a goatee and a woman in white, as well as just about every other person he meets. They're all trying to kill him until the end when he realizes they are all just different versions of himself. I got a faint whiff of underlying symbolism about how at our core, we're all the same and we're our own worst enemies yadda yadda. less

I enjoyed the art a lot more than the story. Really amazing art by Ramon K Perez.
