review 1: Very pleasantly surprised with this book I bought it on a whim without knowing anything about the author or characters in the series. It's a light hearted and witty mystery/whodunit about a former cop now turned PI who takes on a case too recover missing jewellery. The story moves at a reasonable pace is funny in places without being overly silly. I really enjoyed it and it held my attention I will check out some of the authors other books.
review 2: I'm not usually one to set down a book, but I couldn't get past 13%. I feel like the author was trying too hard to make everything (including every single conversation) funny and every character was a stereotype. The boss's rich little daughter is silly and thinks that people without money are quaint, and "prides h
... moreerself in being able to translate any housekeeper or subservient worker's tongue", all the rich kidnapee's family are stupid, loud, and hate each other. And the missing-persons cop that uses Confucius-speak? Incredibly annoying. What kind of private investigator in today's world doesn't know how to even work a cell phone, let alone own one? Probably not a very good one, but I'll never find out. less
