review 1: It's really hard to like Nick Corey, High Sherriff of Potts County, but you almost have to admire how he maneuvers his way through life's little difficulties. This book was nothing like I expected, and the many unexpected turns were very entertaining. It's a dark story, though, and gets progressively darker as Nick finds himself in more and more difficult situations. I would have given 4 stars except for the end - I was really very disappointed in the ending and it turned a darkly amusing journey into something just disturbing.
review 2: I didn't Jim Thompson, and that makes me a bad reader for sure, 'cause I was just missing an amazing and smart author that now will give so many books to read in the future. This book is so much Nick Corey - the main character -
... more a mixture of a loser, stupid and at the same time dirty, nasty and lovable. He's the center of the story and everything is developed from him and with him it goes on.Pure entertainment.Maybe a 4.5 stars. less
