review 1: Ok just a few thoughts at the midway point of this book...So it's summer and sometimes you crave a light "beachy" read where you get to know characters and follow them through a generally predictable plot. I thought this might be something like that. It succeeds in being light and predictable so far but the dialogue feels cheesy, or staged instead of real. The plot seems to be building up to some conflict and then fizzles out and nothing happens. The conflict that is there (sisters needing to reconnect, grieve over parents death, relationship issues) seems to be working out without much work on the character end. It isn't a long book hopefully the second half is better...I came to appreciate this story for what it was, something to read on a relaxing summer day when I don't... more need to be driven by the plot to keep reading. The worst turmoil in this book is the death of the siblings parents many years before, and sibling rivalry, which when it is between grown women is just annoying. Alex is coming off like a spoiled brat even though she has her reasons for being angry at her sisters. The way it is portrayed just seemed like a teenager acting an adult role. You either have to be driven by the plot or love the characters of a book and this book gave me neither. Alex is a whining, stereotypical youngest sibling. The sister relationship, so common as a device in chic lit, isn't believable. I love chic lit, but this wasn't it for me.
review 2: This was a free book via BookBub, the first in the Loon Lake series. Summer of Firefly Memories was predictable but a pleasant read just the same. Told primarily from Sammy's perspective, the sister characters are well defined and united, yet divided by a shared tragedy.Of course there were seeds planted in this first book to lure you into the next one in the series. If it comes up free on BookBub or I can get it from my library,I might read it. Normally I wouldn't give chick lit a four star rating, but there are some interesting interpretations and evaluations of sisterhood and grief that gave this book a little more credibility. I can recommend this book as a light beach read. less

In need of a good editing. Why can't an author get pronouns correct? Very distracting.

I enjoyed the book and the characters although I found it a little too predictable.

It's a fun summer read. Perfect for around the pool at Bruin Woods.
