review 1: Personally, I thought this book had been the best book I have ever read. It got attached to this book right away, to the point where it was impossible to put down. The character that I liked the most was the main character named Charity. She's a Veterinarian that is single but very strong willed. She has a big heart and has been through a lot. She explains how hard she has to work to get her spot. During this story she meets a young marine named Gabe and they automatically hit it off. they start off as him just being a customer for her but then turn into something way better. Once they start dating everything seems to be going perfect, but since he is a marine that does mean that he will have to leave her no matter how close they get and what they turn out to leave. After ... morea sequence of twists and spins between them he eventually leaves, but once again he did fall in love with her and couldn't just walk out of her life now. After a full day of not being with her and realizing how lost he really is, he runs back to her. The character that i Hadn't been so fond with was Charrity's mother. she had been a very stubborn lady that was always trying to get into the middle of charrity and Gabes relationship. she never stopped complaining and when she wasn't complaining she wasn't complaining, she was crying about how she thought her husband was cheating ion her when really he wasn't. Three literal characteristics that i had noticed while reading this book were imagery, foreshadowing, and flashbacks. The author had described imagery by giving exquisite detail and examples of each and every scene. She makes everything intense, clear, and easy to understand. Next she shows foreshadowing by hinting and giving examples about what might happen later on during the novel. lastly, she states how Charity has flashbacks and how something may lead back to what has already happened, such as when the author explains about how Charrity had been married to a soldier earlier, but she later than found out that he had been cheating on her.
review 2: This is the second book in the Shelter Bay series and I loved it. The first one was almost too tame and lazily written - nothing real emotional or romantic about it other than Sax's charm. It almost seems like a different JoAnn Ross wrote this book! The first book had very tame dialogue and maybe one short sex scene. This book had sexy dialogue, hot romance and even some rough language. I was hooked on the characters in this book from the beginning. Charity and Gabe were written so well. I'm a sucker for scarred, wounded, loner-type heroes, and Gabe being a steely-eyed former Marine with a weakness for children and animals was just a bonus! Charity was a great heroine. She wasn't too nice, she wasn't too sexy, she was just your pretty, girl-next door vet who liked people and animals. She understood Gabe's faults and tried not to expect too much from him. Their romance was sexy and sweet and the addition of the foster kids plot was actually done quite well. less
