review 1: I wanted to like this more than I did... I was expecting a 5 star so I'm a little disappointed. I found the POV switching to be very confusing. When I realized that the only POV characters were Guillaume, Marguerite, Hawker, and Justine, things made way more sense. I could not figure out what was going on in Justine's POV most of the time :(I loved the story in this book. The plot wasn't secondary (or non existent) like it typically is in romance. It really went hand in hand with the romance. I do wish they'd tied things up with Victor and Marguerite's dad more but that's a small complaint.I did feel like the romance was a little lackluster... I didn't get excited about the interactions between the characters. There was such a gloominess over the plot that I'm not sure how... more you could. The romance essentially 'I find you attractive' -> 'We've spent some time together' -> 'I love you'. The characters were good together though so it was sweet. The smut was extra light. I did appreciate that the characters didn't fuck around forever trying to decide if they were in love or not. Once they did, even after secrets were revealed, there wasn't a lot of unnecessary drama.I really like all of Marguerite's thoughts and speech. I'm not fluent in French or anything, but it felt like they way she expressed herself and constructed sentences was very French :)I really liked Hawker and Justine and I'm super excited for their book! I hope I get to see more of Severine too. I'd also like to know more about Jeanne, but it doesn't look like she has a book.
review 2: This one started out a bit slower for me than the last one, but by the time we got into Paris I was hooked into it. I'm astounded by how well the author manages to get the nuances of the languages and mannerisms down. As well as people slipping in and out of their roles. It's really great. I really liked getting to see these two and the courtyard scene towards the end. Also hello I see what's happening with Justine and Hawker. I SEE. less
