The Twelfth Imam
review 1: This is a quirky book. On the one hand I enjoyed it as a Tom Clancy type action thriller with insider information about the CIA and Iran. There were supernatural-appearing elements at the first that I expected to be explained in a natural fashion at a later point in the novel. However, at about the 65% point Jesus appears to one of the characters in Iran in the middle of a highway, complete with robes and crucifixion marks and all, and it was pretty predictable from there that this was Christian end days literature -- Satan (in the form of a Muslim savior, the twelfth imam) vs. Jesus. For this genre, the writing is good but be forewarned.
review 2: I always love a good political thriller, and this was no exception. What is fantastic about Rosenberg is that he
... more extensively researches the topic on hand regarding the Middle East and the scriptures. It is refreshing to read an intense book and not have the bad language or sexual references that often occur in books involving an under cover American agent. However, I will say that some parts of the book require a little skimming as they get a little too preachy and there were some scenes where Jesus talks directly to some of the characters and it was a little too much for me. I have to say his ending was an amazing cliff hanger, that has definitely left me desperate to get to the next book and see what happens. less
