review 1: The classic Madeline picture books have always seemed to intrigue me since I was a little girl. I love Madeline's character, how she is mischievous but has a warm heart and cares about everyone and everything. The storyline is fun for the reader, because the text rhymes throughout the entire book; it's almost like each word rolls off your tongue. The bold drawings and bright colors, especially the emphasis on the yellow, really grabs the readers attention and makes you feel like you are in that specific country. Madeline's chase through Rome is portrayed through paintings of many well known buildings done in John Bemelmans's style. I also love how John Bemelmans Marciano (the author) incorporates some foreign language into the text. The reader can learn simple french like,... more "Ciao!" I would recommend this book to a young reader who is probably a female, just because I don't see boys having an interest in a book titled, Madeline.
review 2: Best for kids age 6 and upEarly Literacy Skills: Print Motivation, Vocabulary, Phonological Awareness, Narrative SkillsFrom cover:Madeline returns to take readers on a whirlwind tour of Rome! The Paris skies are gray and gloomy, so Miss Clavel and the twelve little girls set out to find the sun. The time has come for spring in Rome! There are glorious sights to see and delicious pasta to eat, and of course the intrepid Madeline finds herself in the midst of an adventure, one involving a thief, a chase, and many, many cats. Madeline is back with her rhymes and adorable illustrations to make this book a fun read. less
