review 1: Part of me wanted to give this book 2 stars, but it was well written, and the story and characters were interesting. What bothered me was the message. I don't want to give the story away, even though it says close to the beginning how it would end.I don't like the way the book ended. I guess I'm old, and I'm too sentimental for my own good. I just want to believe that even in the worst character there is a spark of goodness.
review 2: --Spoilers--Hmmm... I guess I needed some form of redemption for Alexander - was disappointed that he just went on being horrible 9 times over. I don't know who I would recommend this to even if I did like it...seems written for younger readers but has mature themes and is very morbid. At least with Lemony Snickett we get to
... moreroot for the children. No likable characters here - except maybe the cat. less

A funny, dark story about a boy determined to defy destiny and live for nine more lives.

I know some children like this kind of humor, but I do not find it appealing.
