review 1: I'm a big fan of this series and how Burdett blends Buddhist philosophy into sordid crime fiction to create an existential head trip. The weirder things get, the better the books are. And this one has plenty of weird. Incestual, homicidal, necrophallic twins? Check. An organ-trafficking ring as harbinger for mankind's cannibalistic end? Check. Opium head trips and feminists embracing prostitution? Yep. Up there with Bangkok Haunts as the best of the series.
review 2: I enjoyed Vulture Peak, the latest novel in John Burdett's "Thai Detective" series. It's pretty much interchangeable with the other four books in the series - which I'm obviously a fan of. The plot moves easily, and Jitlecheep and the other familiar characters are all immensely likeable. The elem
... moreents of Thai culture and Jitlecheep's Buddhism, while probably superficial, are a fun overlay. (It probably doesn't hurt that by coincidence I read it immediately after a trip to Phuket, where the story is partially set.) less
