review 1: 4.75stars I hope this ride doesn’t end too soon!Full Disclosure – I received a free digital copy to read in exchange for an honest review from the author. This installment of the adventures of Justin Case Slade started was a complete thrill ride from the opening sentence until the last. There were parts that seemed to drag, but that was more due to so much action that a slow-down seemed a drag; a lot of information bombs and just plain good things stuffed between the covers. How much can one half-DemonSpawn take? Despite mentioning some of the highlights, everything fits well and was given the attention it deserved while neither neglecting, overdoing or glossing over the information we’ve already received. While Justin is still reeling from the emotional bomb droppe... mored by this mother in the previous book he has to continue to deal. Because that isn’t enough to have on his overfull plate, Elyssa is in dire straits and needs him desperately. Together they are a force to be reckoned with and they are tested together and separately and you can’t help but cheer for them and this episode focused squarely on them. I missed a few of the characters we had met previously because I liked them so much I wanted more. The characters have grown a great deal since book one and in each outing there is a opportunity to flex and make choices. Overall, I’m enjoying the mystery as it plays out, each installment teasing a little more out while fully making use of the environment, the world, the characters and staying true to what needs to happen next. This is definitely a series that should be read in order so that each bit can be savored properly. I don’t know exactly when this ride will end, but I hope it isn’t anytime soon. Beyond my desire to read more of this world, I can only give a standing ovation.
review 2: Just finished John Corwin’s Fallen Angel of Mine, book three of the Overworld Chronicles, and while I’ve liked this series I have to say book three is my fave by far! Everything was right in this one - took the series from an "I like it" status and raised it to a solid recommendation, especially for older teens who enjoy paranormal. Fallen Angel of mine delivered what I would have liked to see in the series from the very beginning. I don’t know if it was due to this book’s placement in the series (book one was the introduction, book two was set up, and now book three is more “meat” of the story) or if it is reflective of Mr. Corwin’s continued growth as a writer and deepened knowledge of the characters, but this book really satisfied me. It had a great overarching story with the search for Vadaemos, and awesome new characters in addition to the ones I have come to care about. The action is phenomenal and very well written, and a few of the story’s mysteries were solved. Now of course this opened up a bevy of new questions, but that’s what the next book is for right? Can’t wait to get my hands on it!! less
