review 1: the writing & story are pretty good. Too violent for my tastes or to recommend. and very personal violence. Carl Freeman is a boxer. The back-story that he stands up for the underdogs and the bullied wasn't enough justification for me to admire and accept that fighting is the answer. Especially when he is fighting and pushes further than necessary at the moment so he won't have to fight them again. Reminds me of Ender in that respect. Maybe I just don't have the blood lust to appreciate it. so call me a girl. I think it is even more violent that Hunger Games, and that is plenty violent. And more consciously, premeditatedly so.

... moreoing to want to fly through this book. This is one of those stories where you need to read your beloved characters to safety. But never fear, you'll enjoy every minute of the ride. Its hard-hitting, spare prose will take your breath away with its profound observations about humanity, all while keeping you on the edge of your seat. The heroes are easy to root for, the villains even easier to fear. It's a must-have in my opinion. less
