review 1: An enjoyable murder mystery which was well written and draws the reader in from the start. Sean a young male hustler manages at the beginning to avoid being murdered by leaving his "john" to go to the shop. On return to the apartment, the killer is too busy occupied with the gruesome murder to realise his target had returned. Sean runs from the building pursued by the killer and finds refuge with a much older friend/client in a nearby bar refusing to go to the police as he would be their prime suspect. So starts the roller coaster ride of cat and mouse - will the killer find and murder Sean before the police catch him. Interminable rain makes the atmosphere so dark and personally I found little relief to the "darkness" of the book. However it was a well planned story with ... morea great denouement.Four stars
review 2: I really liked this. Among the best suspense/murder mysteries I've read in a while. A couple of things stood out for me: The characters are very deftly drawn. Mr Inman conveys what's essential to each character subtly, with nothing superfluous to trip over. Even minor characters have real presence. Second was the way everything in the story (setting, atmospherics, etc.) was used to move the suspense forward. It feels very carefully crafted without being overwrought. There is, to be sure, brutality in these pages, but there's humor and genuine sweetness as well. I think the book is a gem. less

Excellent read. I was able to get lost in the characters which is something I enjoy in a story.
