review 1: I really enjoyed this book. It is a little predictable in places, but I think the author does a brilliant job of creating this fiction out of very real and tragic events. I think that the era, the location, the perspectives of the characters and their ideas and way of thinking at that time have been well researched and represented so well in fictional form. As the author is a journalist and most of his writing is non fiction (this may be his only work if fiction?) I think that his transition from non fiction to fiction has been excellent.

... moreraft with the car! I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a different and unusual story for a change from the norm. You can also see some clips of the elephants crossing the rivers on YouTube as Cambridge released some footage a while ago - type up 'The Elephant man of Burma' less

Very atmospheric but the story seems to stumble to an unsatisfactory ending.
