review 1: I drive between two and three hours every day, back and forth from Long Beach to LA, with my carpool/cousin/coworker. It's a LOT of time to spend in the car, and while my car doesn't have one of those nifty jacks that plug into an ipod, it *does* have a CD player. So what, I thought, could be better than a book on CD? What could help to dull the aching dreariness of that outrageous commute? Stopping at every single red light up and down Washington Blvd, every day? A book on CD! A book on CD about VAMPIRES! And ASSASSINS! And VAMPIRE ASSASSINS! Living in VENICE! Fighting WEREWOLVES! So like Assassin's Creed PLUS vampires and werewolves! Wow! I should have checked GoodReads first before I bought the damn thing. This is NOT a book about vampires. This is about ONE vampire, an... mored he is definitely the lamest vampire who's ever existed, ever.
review 2: This is a story of political intrigue, set in an alternate 15th century Venice, where werewolves, assassins and (a single) vampire prowl. If this sounds interesting to you, chances are that you'll like "The Fallen Blade".The story is well-written and it's obvious that a fair amount of historical research has gone into it. The "tone" of the story is cynical and rather misanthropic, and to me, this was the main drawback. Almost all the characters are base and evil, and as a result, you don't invest a lot of feelings in them, and I ended up feeling somewhat detached, despite all the bloodshed. less

One of the best vampire stories I've read in a long time. Equal in style to Anne Rice.
