review 1: Blech. Picked out this memoir because it is about coming to love a rescue dog. At least, that's what it was purported to be. Turns out, it was just an excuse for the author to wax poetic about his second wife and their amazing relationship. Which is bologna because they both seem nuts and needy. And while I can certainly appreciate nuts and needy, this was too much. I wanted a good dog story. And now, instead, I want to punch someone. A two-legged someone. Dogs still rule.
review 2: Far from my favorite Jon Katz book. I have to agree with several other reviews, this book is more a loooong essay on the end of his first marriage, dissolution of one family, the lonely panic-ridden days and his friendship with Maria & decision to convince Freida it was OK
... more to enjoy life and trust humans again. The all-to-rare commentary on his exploration of Freida's issues and techniques tried and so on made me very glad I did not read this book. I listened to it last week on my commute.I am glad that Freida learned that she could relinquish some of her driven behavior and end up a more contented dog. less

Not my favorite of Jon Katz's book. A little too much information = but interesting.

Sweet story about how to find love in unlikely places and how to be patient with it.
