review 1: This is a poorly researched book revealing far more about the author's veneration of its subject than about the subject himself. Mr. Sweeney tells us that there is no proof that Pope Boniface had Celestine V murdered.....and then spends a chapter telling us how he did it. The author is very biased against Boniface VIII, and does not, to me, seem to actually understand the period he is writing about. VERY disappointed in this book, had been looking forward to it for some time.
