review 1: The target audience for this book is probably older elementary, middle school kids. If your kid is younger, I'd suggest you read the book first. It deals with an orphan (Peter) who is blind because he has had his eyes pecked out by ravens. He ends up being a thief for a man and eventually ends up in a magical kingdom where he needs to save the day. There are fights with people dying that younger kids might not need to read.

Peter Nimble had suffered a horrible childhood, enslaved by a man who taught him to be a master thief. Through a chance encounter with a mysterious traveling salesman, Peter, with his grea... moret gift of lock-picking, unlocks the box to the fantastic eyes and is immediately transported to another land. He is given a quest to rescue a kingdom ruled by an evil imposter king. Peter encounters all manner of obstacles and uses his wits and thieving/survival skills to overcome them. Non-stop exploits and fun characters Peter meets on his quest will keep kids'interest. A true underdog using his wits, skills, compassion, and perseverance to triumph is a great message, and humor sprinkled throughout makes the story even more fun. I listened to the book on CD, narrated by Michael Page, who did an outstanding job. less
