review 1: This beautifully written book transported me back in time to the days of slavery in the deep South, with it's tale of Granada, a young girl who learns what it means to heal others and to be truly free. I really liked the how the narrative shifted between two time periods, weaving characters together in a subtle way. The ending was very satisfying and the characters so realistic that by the end of the book I felt like I knew them personally.
