review 1: What a blast! This probably should have come across to me as being a lot darker than it did. The 5 main characters never let me down with their innate humanity. All were realistic and quite endearing. Which is probably why I found this to be so, eh, not-dark. (Up-lifting may be to strong for a work that has cannibalizing children in it.) And I usually don't enjoy the dynamics of a multi-partner relationship but since I kept going back and forth as to who should end up with whom I was quite happy that N, J and T all got each other. Perfect solution to my quandary. Great world-building that I'd really, really love to read more of.
review 2: The synopsis of this book gave the impression it was going to be a GLBT themed Soylent Green, and I was a bit wary goi
... moreng in. After having read Price's Zero Hour, though, I should have probably had more faith. Because this is a meticulously researched, greatly unique, and occasionally terrifying and disturbing story. It embodies what the sci-fi genre is about and what it should be like, and throws in a few added elements like three dimensional, likeable characters, and relationship dynamics that sci-fi tends to overlook. A well rounded book and an addictive read. As the second sci-fi themed Price book I've read and have not been disappointed with despite going in without many expectations, I have to say she's one of the best alt sci-fi writers out there. less
