review 1: The story of Leif and Dan. I suppose it was mostly good. It had a bit of romance, some excitement, some deadly danger, and a lot of rotting corpses. I had a hard time getting into the whole haint-business, too much paranormal for me. But I suppose I could have dealt with it, if it hadn’t been for the big no-no: insta-love. Done right I can handle it, sometimes. But this was not one of those occasions. It might have felt like it took a while of lusting from afar before anything happened. But considering the main story only spanned ten days (two weeks at most, not sure), it was way too fast.I thought Dan, overwhelmed by the guilt of not protecting his family felt a bit boring to be honest. But Bea and Virgil both were good additions, and made Dan a bit more human. Leif on ... morethe other hand, escaping a lot of previous abuse. Most of it in the hands of Runar. It’s hard to see him trusting so easily as he did.And the way Dan just forgave Leif like that. Felt a bit too easy, and a little bit of a let down.But lastly, I had a hard time just getting over the name Leif. Growing up, my best friends dad was named Leif. So for me, Leif is an older, boring guy in his fifties/sixties. Not a young sexy stud.
review 2: I read this in two days. This morning my teenaged daughter borrowed my iPad for school when I still had 20 pages to read and I told her that if she lost it she was no longer my kin and would need to find a new home. Because I had to finish this book. Oh,and I want to keep Leif as a pet, which is probably illegal, but I drank a whole bottle of wine before I wrote this review, so I don't give a shit. less
