review 1: A cute, short story about a boy who takes a job as a prison guard for a prison that's haunted. After Billy Calder has a rough first day, things seem to be looking up as he gets the hang of guarding a ghost prison on the graveyard shift. But the one who requested he be put on the night shift, the ghost, Long-Necked Nettie, has plans for Billy, and Billy will need to keep his wits about him, and follow the prison rules to the letter, if he's going to get out of this alive!
review 2: Creepy. Suspenseful. Fast-paced. The Ghost Prison will thrill young readers with its scary prose and eerie illustrations. Once readers are introduced to the main character, the plot moves swiftly to the haunted prison. Billy is warned about the Witch Well and Long Neck Netty but whe
... moren his boss misses work, Billy is forced to feed the creature in the well. Billy's experience in the well could easily scare elementary school readers but tweens & teens will devour the drawings with pleasure. The ending of the book feels rushed. The story has a definite end but at the same time is incomplete, like a short story masquerading as a novel. Highly recommended for boys, 12 & up. Great for reluctant readers. less
