The Last Apprentice / Wardstone Chronicles
review 1: This series is never not good. They are fast-moving stories filled with witches, beasts, fights, ghouls of every stripe and narrow escapes. They can also be gruesome but this is a horror series so that's no surprise. This book is a bit of departure in that Grimalkin is the protagonist (and narrator) and Tom Ward (the apprentice spook) sits this one out. She's a great character, though. Also, one note: I've recently learned that this series will end with book 13. Fitting, that.
review 2: The book "The Last Apprentice Grimalkin The Witch Assassin" was suspenseful and was filled of sorrow. This can be seen when Grimalkin's Apprentice Thorne died in battle, but she also got tortured while she was dying which made it worse. For example,"She is lying on her back, stone
... more dead. Her eyes were wide open and staring,an expression of horror and pain etched upon her face. The grass is wet with blood. Her hands have been mutilated. They have taken her thumb bones."(pg.335)This shows that she was being tortured when she was dying. Therefore this proves that there was very sad events in the book. less
