review 1: The book is a good place to start for writers who haven't published or haven't written yet. I would love to see this book expanded to twice the size with more meat. The title does not claim any more than a beginner's entry point so it's not deceptive, just a little disappointing for those who might be expecting critical expertise of writing. There are a few tips and good anecdotes, but it left me wanting some magical keys to unlock the doors of great writing. Maybe those keys don't exist. I have no doubt that Joe is a sincere and good writer and capable of writing something for experienced short story writers, probably a good idea for "Let's fine tune your short stories".Jerry Guarinoauthor of "50 Italian Pastries"
review 2: Let's Write a Short Story ReviewWhil... moree most of the information provided in this book is available online, it was nice to see it brought together in one place. I thought the content of this book was informative. Throughout the book, useful links are suggested, and I think these links should be live hyperlinks. People are more apt to visit these sites if it is a simple one-click process. The section which addresses submissions includes submission by mail, which is rarely ever used anymore, so I'm not sure how relevant that portion is.I did notice some formatting issues such as different fonts within certain words (an example is on pg. 3, in `Bradbury') and I thought the TOC would have been more useful with hyperlinks to each section. The TOC ran together a bit for me, so I would suggest different formatting here.Overall, this was an enjoyable and useful publication and with some slight formatting, I think it could be even better.
