review 1: This book features several takes on The King In Yellow mythos and gives some refreshing ideas about the concepts. They range from those thoroughly anchored in reality to those thoroughly not anchored in reality. What happens as a result is that there are some stories you LOVE and some you HATE. Frankly, there's even a few that I'm not really sure what they have to do with The King In Yellow. That doesn't make them bad, just puzzling additions to the book.
review 2: Unfortunately, the mythos that Robert Chambers (inadvertently) created back in 1895 with The King in Yellow collection is quite thin. Because of that, these short stories all tend to touch on the same six or so allusions, which makes the otherwise different stories feel repetitive. Also, it seems
... more like the most interesting stories get abruptly derailed by vague and unsatisfying endings. I mostly enjoyed The King in Yellow, but I can't say the same for this modern collection of stories inspired by that classic. less
